DIY Clothing Drying Rack

Save money by allowing your clothes to dry on a handmade drying rack instead of putting them into the dryer with this clever DIY idea.

Create this folding laundry drying rack with a few simple materials and enjoy extra space to hang clothes and linens to dry!

We’ve been needing extra space to hang delicates/clothes that can’t be dried in the dryer. We wanted something that would hold more than just a couple things, be able to move to sunny spots within the house and most importantly, be able to fold up for storage when not in use.

This folding clothes drying rack meets all those needs, as well having a simple, natural design. It also has dowels that can move, which makes it nice for when bulkier items need to be dried, you can slide the dowels around to accommodate those items.

  • 1 x 3 pine board
  • (3) 7/16 x 48 in. dowels
  • (2) ⅝ x 48 in. dowels
  • All purpose clothesline (3/16 in. x 50 ft.)
  • Flat washers
  • Nylon lock nuts
  • Machine screws
  • Miter box saw
  • Table saw
  • Power planer
  • Jig saw
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Drill with ⅝ in. Forstner bit and 3/16 in. drill bit
  • Wood glue
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
