DIY Heart Cutting Board
Did you know that making a fancy cutting board by yourself is more cost-saving than purchasing one online? All you need are the right wood-working tools and a plan to follow. Cutting boards are one of the most popular DIY woodworking projects for beginners.
Family and food go hand in hand this time of year, and the kitchen is generally bustling with all of the action. If you plan to host (or are looking for the perfect gift for the do-it-all host and hostess in your life), personalize the holiday get-together with a custom cutting board. With detailing a unique heart shape, your finished project can make itself at home in the kitchen during meal prep or on the buffet as a serving tray for appetizers. Wow your guests with your cutting skills! Craft a handmade, heart-shaped cutting board that even a beginner woodworker can master.
To get a wide enough piece, we glued 3 pieces together to create an 18 x 18 inch square. Use wood glue and clamp the pieces together until dry. Then use a piece of paper to create a heart template. This was probably the hardest part! Find the center of the wood and use a bowl to create the rounded edges of the heart. Trace the outline onto the wood. Cut out the shape with a jig saw. Then use a sander or sand paper to smooth the edges. Finish by applying several coats of butcher block conditioner and your heart cutting board is ready. I’m so impressed with how this turned out! I think you will like it, too!
